Privacy Policy

Overview

SaboNick is a personal study tool. This policy explains exactly what happens to your data — including any files you upload — so you can use the service with confidence. Your study material is retained for a limited time solely so you can resume a lesson without waiting for it to regenerate — never shared with other users, never used to train AI models.

1. What Happens to Your Uploaded Files

When you upload a file (PDF, DOCX, PPTX, TXT, or image), the following happens:

1. Your file is sent to our server, where its text content is extracted. The original file itself (the PDF/DOCX/PPTX/image) is never written to a database or saved to disk — it exists only in memory for the duration of the request.
2. The extracted text is sent to our AI provider to generate your personalized lesson, and is then saved to our secure database, associated with your account, for up to 30 days — so that reopening the same lesson within that window loads instantly instead of regenerating from scratch.
3. The generated lesson content (sections, quizzes, narration scripts, etc.) is saved alongside it, for the same reason and the same 30-day window.
4. Lesson metadata (subject, title, style) is retained indefinitely so your lesson history list stays available, even after the 30-day content window has passed — at that point resuming a lesson regenerates it from the saved extracted text rather than reusing the saved output.

2. AI Processing & Training — The Key Point

SaboNick uses the Anthropic Claude APIto generate lessons. Under Anthropic's API Terms of Service:

• Anthropic does not use content submitted through the API to train its models. This is a firm contractual commitment in their Terms of Service, separate from their consumer products.
• Your content is processed only to return a response (your lesson) and is not retained by Anthropic after the request completes.
• Anthropic may retain usage logs for up to 30 days for safety and abuse monitoring purposes, after which they are deleted. This is standard practice for API providers and is governed by Anthropic's own Privacy Policy.

For audio narration (Auditory style lessons), we use the ElevenLabs API. Only the narration script text — not your original uploaded file — is sent to ElevenLabs. ElevenLabs' API terms likewise prohibit using API inputs for model training.

3. Copyright & Your Uploaded Content

SaboNick is designed for personal educational use. Uploading your textbook, lecture slides, or study notes to generate a private lesson for yourself falls within the same category as photocopying a chapter for personal study — a well-established fair use practice in most jurisdictions.

The reasons your uploaded content does not create copyright problems on our platform:

• Time-limited, personal storage only. Extracted text and generated lessons are kept for up to 30 days solely to let you resume your own study session — not to build a library of copyrighted material.
• Not redistributed. Your lessons are private to your account. No other user can access them.
• Not used for training. The AI provider contractually cannot use your content to improve or train models.
• Personal use only. The Service is for individual students studying their own enrolled course material.

You remain responsible for ensuring your use of uploaded material is lawful in your jurisdiction. You should not upload content you do not have lawful access to (e.g., pirated textbooks or leaked exam papers).

4. Account & Profile Data

Your account is managed by Clerk, a third-party authentication provider. We store the following in your Clerk profile:

• Your name and email address (provided at signup)
• Your VARK learning style result and scores
• Your lesson usage count (for free-tier limits)

We do not store your original uploaded files (the PDF/DOCX/PPTX/image itself). We do store, associated with your account: extracted lesson text and generated lesson content (for up to 30 days, see Section 1), quiz scores, study streaks, lesson history metadata, glossary terms, writing-exercise answers, planner data, and AI chat history.

5. Lesson Chat

The AI chat panel within each lesson sends your messages and a summary of your lesson to our AI provider to generate responses. Chat messages are saved to our database, associated with your account and the relevant lesson, so your conversation persists if you leave and come back. The same no-training commitment from our AI provider applies here.

6. Analytics & Cookies

SaboNick uses only essential cookies required for authentication (managed by Clerk). We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics that profile your behaviour.

7. Your Rights

You can delete your account at any time from your Profile page. This removes your account data from Clerk. Because we do not store your uploaded content or lessons server-side, there is no additional data to delete.

8. Third-Party Services
